The last step is counting spots. In the old times, this work was done "manually" i.e. by counting under microscope. This activity was very time-consuming, significanlty increasing the workload and limitating the use of the method. Nowadays, spot counting and analysis is done automatically with the help of a scanner and a visual analysis system.
